The Captain

Jaime Boyle
has been reading
this water
his whole life.

Boyle grew up around sailboats and tidal rhythms before discovering fly fishing at 19, under the tutelage of Dave Thompson at the Edgartown Yacht Club. He honed his craft behind the counter of Cooper Gilkes' legendary tackle shop in Edgartown — the kind of education you can't find in a guide book.

Today he runs Boylermaker Charters from his 24-foot Silverhawk and Chittum Mangrove 18, working the salt ponds, coastal flats, Elizabeth Islands and Offshore waters of Martha's Vineyard with the same obsessive attention to detail that defines his hand-tied flies.

Signature Patterns

The flies
Jaime created.

Two patterns have become synonymous with Saltwater fishing in New England — each refined over decades on Martha's Vineyard.

Bonito Bunny

Built for speed. Palmered cross-cut rabbit strip with brass coneheads gives this fly the weight and pulse that false albacore can't resist. Designed specifically for the rips and current edges of the Elizabeth Islands, where fish are moving fast and windows are short.

Red Can Squid

A variation on Bob Popovics' Hollow Squid, refined over years on the Vineyard flats. The eyes are superglued directly to the hook shank — a small detail that changes how the fly moves and sits in the water column. A go-to for tailing stripers in the salt ponds.

Hollow Squid base
Superglued eyes on hook
